One bored lunch time I decided to ponder around a local DIY chain,
(some would call this a fate worst than death) where I was captivated
by the vase colours and patterns of the wallpaper. As if I was a child
in a sweet shop, I run my fingers over the patterned and embossed
textures. Closing my eyes I visualised the possibilities in my head,
running through potential ideas in a logical yet crazy method. My gut
instinct kicked in and I knew this was right, it all felt right, but
and this was a big but - right for what?
As the impeccable professional I am, this did not worry me, I some how
knew all would be revealed, it was just a matter of time! Now I am not
a religious person, yes I like to believe there is something - it just
makes life a little bit more interesting and easier at certain times.
However that moment was about to reveal itself, due to my poverty
stricken life style of a bohemian artist that I lead, I don’t have the
web at home – yes a shocking but true fact!! Therefore I am a regular
at the local library where I do all my cyber stuff and try to create a
professional image. This would be where by luck (some may say fate) an
idea would occur, uniting the apparent mundane mass produced wallpaper
with the dark world of comic books. As I was rummaged through the top
shelf of artist A to E, a large red book fell to the floor, opening on
a very interesting page. Before I knew it, I had been working for a
week spread out on the dinning room floor creating something very
different to anything I had done before.
My Studio at Digswell Arts Trust
My studio is located in the beautiful settings of Fairlands Valley Park, where I share a large farm house with 12 other artists who each have a studio. However mine is the best studio (I don’t want to brag or anything!!), there are large sash windows which look out on to the front garden and the back garden – yes it’s that big!
I really enjoy working at the studios there is a great 60’s hippy feel to it and all of the artists here are good friends that I have worked with on numerous projects and exhibitions. Pretty much any art form that you can think of goes on at the house, from glass casting and slumping to painting and calligraphy.
Digswell Arts Trust has a long and distinguish heritage locally and have provided low cost studios for young artist which have become well known on an international level, if you would like to know more please visit their website .
